2007 Domaine de Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem, $21.99

Picture 19So, as you know, our Wines of the Week are little obscure gems priced between $10-15 per bottle. But THIS week, I just had to go over a little to tell you about this AMAZING wine we have in house. The Domaine de Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem is without fail, a show-stopper. When Jon and I first tasted it, we looked at each other and then turned to our distributor, and said, “Give us every single bottle in the state.” Yeah, we liked it that much. We got a 20 case drop that we thought was the only one we could get our hands on, and we sold it in less than 24 hours! Just recently Jon was able to secure another 15 cases on a genius observation, so now we have a few precious cases left!!! That means that all of you who wanted it before can get it. And those of you who have not heard of it yet, come quick and have one of the truly stellar wines of the year in Cork & Bottle.

Comprised of Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah, this wine is one of those dark elixirs that when you stick your nose in the glass, you don’t wanna come up for air. The nose and palate keep on keeping on for all that you’ve got.  Trust us on this one.

Ok, so how would I describe this wine? Dark. Rich. Seductive. Concentrated. Powerful. Meaty. Spicy. Scoring 91 from Wine Spectator and 93 from Wine Advocate, this wine is seriously delicious. Lets hear from Wine Advocate, who I think nails the tasting points: “smells of violets, toasted walnuts, cassis, licorice, rosemary, roasted meats…french herbs and exotic spices…richly carnal palate(ooh! I like that!)…profoundly rich.”  Need I say more?

Come on down folks, and get your hands on this incredible wine that will have you thinking beyond just the bottle. Cheers!

NOTE: See that cross on the end of Bila-Haut? Extra points to those who recognized it as resembling the Knights Templar Cross. Domaine de Bila-Haut is located in the Latour-de-France, an area close to Spain, and known for its history with the Knights Templar and the Cathar movement.  Here’s to history!
