32% ABV Beer anyone?

It must be an awfully strange, cold existence up in Fraserburgh, Scotland, way up on the Northeast edge of the British Isles.   However, in a town of less than 13,000 frozen people, many of whom make their living fishing the icy waters of the North Sea exists BrewDog, Scotland’s largest independent brewery.  I’ve read about these guys in the industry rags a little here and there since they started up a few years back but now a news service I read weekly turned up something very interesting.  They’ve brewed the world’s strongest commercially available beer.

At 32% ABV their Tactical Nuclear Penguin Stout is one intense monster.  I can hardly imagine how much texture and viscosity the thing has, and I’m not likely going to find out since I don’t imagine any of this will make its way from the UK.

The beer begins life as a 10% imperial stout aged for 18 months then spends an additional8 months in Scotch whiskey cask.   To “kick it up a notch” they stored the beer at -20 degrees celcius for three weeks to get it to 32% ABV.  Pretty awesome stuff, I imagine.  Could you imagine a dome full of Who Dat’s juiced up on 32% ABV beer?  Lord knows if Laurie had put this one in the 100 beers rotation we might have to call 911 when she was done.

Anyway, like I said, it must be a pretty unique existence living in some place so cold and detached, but if the outcome is fine, that’s all that matters:

    Jon, when is C&B’s shipment arriving????? Samuel Adams deprived us of Utopia, yet again – so, what is the chance of NOLA seeing the Penguin?
