Being John Malkovich

malkThis post is about wine, trust me.  In fact, its about a very good wine tasting.  Read on.

When the movie Being John Malkvoich came out a few years back it was perhaps one of the most refreshingly clever and thought provoking movies I’d seen in a long time.  I’m sure you may know the plot line, but if you don’t it was basically about these three very flawed people who found a portal to literally climb into the mind of actor John Malkovich.  Of course there were a number of things flying around in this flick, but the notion of climbing into someone’s head, seeing whats going on in their brain, was a fascinating concept.

Now onto wine. Genius is everywhere.  The typewriter had Hunter S. Thompson, the canvas had Van Gogh, the trumpet had Miles Davis, the boob tube has Stephen Colbert (see where I’m going with this) . . . well, the corkscrew has Peter Weygandt.  In addition to being an ardent Phillies fan, Peter Weygandt is a wine importer who embodies the notion that wines with an extra dimension of character come from special winemakers-people of talent, who work hard, but also have that extra feeling about what they do that comes through in their wines.  He’ll tell you (as does his website) that his main objective is finding these people from all around France, Australia, Austria, Italy and Spain and bring their wines to the market. The genius of his selection process comes through in the profile of the wines he brings to market, and it there’s no hyperbole to say that you can blindly pull any Peter Weygandt selection and be assured of an amazing bottle of wine.

Well, we’re downright beside ourselves with schoolgirl giddiness that he’s going to be in the house on the evening of April 22 to taste with us eight of his amazing wines, wines that show expression, depth, balance and purity and – the important part – he will discuss with us what he looks for in wine, how he evaluates wines and what his idea of truth and honesty in wine is.  Getting into Peter’s head is indeed a rare treat (although there’s no tunnel like the film, and unfortunately no love scene with Catherine Keener).

Think of it as an art lesson from Picasso.  I’m buying a seat, and you can too by clicking the link below.
