Happy Birthday to Me

So its my birthday today and I started the day in style with a Vietnamese Breakfast on the Best Bank. I grabbed The Nutty Irishman and the two of us made the trek to Gretna. Pulling up to the place at 9:15 am, we were the 5th car in the parking lot, not realizing how common it is amongst Vietnamese restaurants to open early to offer up big bowls of Pho and Bun to bolster people for the rest of the day.  I’d been geared up for my Tripe and Oxtail Pho breakfast for a almost week now, but this morning as soon as my ass hit the seat I opted instead for my pre-Katrina Pho Tau Bay favorite: Fried Vermicelli cakes with grilled pork, rice paper and a fried egg.

Skipping the usual food bloggery nonsense, lets just lets just file these under a picture speaks a thousand words. . . .

The Adventure Begins

What makes a plate of chargrilled pork and fried garlicky vermicelli cakes better? A fried egg, of course.

With an atomic Vietnamese coffee to my left, the only thing missing is a birthday candle.

With an atomic Vietnamese coffee to my left, the only thing missing is a birthday candle, but since The Nutty Irishman paid I suppose its all good!
