What is the perfect wine for these scorchingly hot and humid days of New Orleans? We have one for you indeed! This bright and fresh summer white is what everyone at Cork & Bottle is drinking these days to beat the heat.

Made in the foothills of the Pyrenees south of Bordeaux, this wine is tailor made for hot climates and light summer fare. What is surprising about this little guy is its makeup, being comprised of 60% Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano) and 40% Colombard, admittedly not the most noble grapes. And yes. I know what you’re thinking. Trebbiano? Not sooo much. But I guarantee I wouldn’t be writing about it if it was even remotely close to the unfortunate watery insipidness of the Italian version. Too harsh?

Maybe, but when you taste Domaine de Pouy’s Ugni Blanc, you might think you were dealing with an entirely different grape. Which is one of the things that drew us to this fantastic little gem. With an explosion of freshly sliced green apple and delicate floral notes on the nose and a crisp and refreshing palate, its a wine that cools the summer fires and makes you feel like sitting on a porch with someone else fanning you. And at a mere $9.99, its a value you won’t wanna pass up. Cheers!

Great recommendation! Enjoyed it more than most $20 whites. Can’t wait to buy more.
