2007 Altanuta Pinot Grigio, $14.99

Alto Adige DOC, Italybrands_altanuta

Since the moment this wine has hit Cork & Bottle shelves, it’s been flying off them! Altanuta is and has always been one of my favorite Pinot Grigios. Why? Unlike so many watery, insipid wines labeled Pinot Grigio, this one honors the true nature of the grape giving us wine drinkers a distinct pleasure!

Altanuta, which translates to “high estate,” hails from the Alto Adige region of northeastern Italy. The grapes are grown at a high altitude on rugged mountain slopes, which gives the wine its distinct character. Full of minerality and crisp notes of citrus, this is not your average Pinot Grigio. Put your nose in the glass and you get aromas of wet stone, rocky streams, delicate white flower, lemon, and yes I swear…cold mountain air. Anyone one who has been hiking on a crisp day will know what I mean! (Its kind of like York Peppermint Patties sweeping you away…but you get a buzz) I can’t say it enough, I think this is a stellar example of what Pinot Grigio should be.

Come try a bottle and see for yourself. Cheers!
