Fall WineSense Tasting Schedule

2009 October 6
by Jon Smith

WineSense is Cork & Bottle’s series of incredibly informative Wednesday night wine tastings. Our New Orleans WineSense tastings are some of the most informational, enlightening, fun AND AFFORDABLE series of organized wine tastings the city of New Orleans has to offer. We keep each class size to around 20-25 people so you can enjoy your wine tasting with some elbow room. Each tasting will begin at 6:30 pm and will last for approximately one hour. Check this website two weeks in advance of each tasting for a listing of the wines to be poured.

For more questions or to make a reservation please call us at 504.483.6314 or just click the title of the tasting. Cheers!

October 7No tasting

October 14: Cork & Bottle Boutique Wines Consumer Tasting, $FREE
Boutique Wine Collection is a wine import company dedicated to fleshing out undiscovered and exceptional wines from a unique mix of wine regions.  Join us for this relaxed, walk-around style tasting with guest host Bryce McNamee, the owner of Boutique Wines as we offer up a dozen selections of wines from Spain, Austira and South Africa for you to try (for free).  The tasting will go from 6:00 to 8:00 and is totally free of charge.  You do, however, need to let us know you’re coming so we can “reserve a glass” for you, we’re limiting this tasting to 35 people.

October 15: An Evening of Robert Kacher Selections. $25.00
Join us for our modified Fall Wine tasting originally set to take place at the Pitot House.  A last minute scheduling conflict has caused a change of venue from the Pitot House to Cork & Bottle, but we’re still rolling out almost 3 dozen first rate wines from France, including 1er Cru Burgundy, wines from Alsace, the Northern and Southern Rhone and all points in between.  With an average price per bottle north of $25 this is a FANTASTIC chance to taste some of the most exciting French wines we work with all year.  The tasting will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 and we are limited this tasting to 50 people.

October 21: Fork & Bottle: Perfect Party Planning with Wine and Cheese, $15
Ahh, cheese, wonderful cheese.  So,  here we are, right on the edge of holiday party season and we thought it would be a great time to show the basics of how to construct cheese plates, how to serve wine with them and other party planning ideas for the fall (such as how to conduct your own wine and cheese tasting).  Its everything you wanted to know about serving wine and cheese but were afraid to ask. The tasting begin at 6:30 and will last about an hour.  (Limit 20 seats)

October 28: The Stars of Italy with Antonio, $40
This seminar takes us down to Central Italy to Tuscany where we will delve into the great, traditional Sangiovese based wines of Brunello and their modern new counterparts, the Super Tuscans. Antonio Molesini will lead a tasting of 8 Tuscan wines, 4 from Montalcino and 4 blended wines, aka Super Tuscans. What makes a Super Tuscan super? Does tradition matter in Brunello? How does oak influence both? Which style do you prefer? Answer all these questions and more at this incredibly informative seminar. The tasting begin at 6:30 and will last about an hour  (Limit 32 seats)

November 4: Days of Wine and Chocolate, $20
Wine and fine chocolate can be a natural match, if you know what to look for in each one.  With the holidays right around the corner some knowledge about pairing these two is definitely something that could come in handy.  We’ll use the amazing choclates from Cheryl Scripter’s Bittersweet Confectionary as we taste through a wide range of wines and chocolates that show styles of each and how they pair together.  This one is kind of a no-brainer.  The tasting begin at 6:30 and will last about an hour (Limit 20 seats)

November 11: The Judgment of Paris in Mid-City, $45
The movie Bottle Shock popularized one of the most important wine tastings in Napa Valley history, a tasting that showed the world how top flight Napa wines pair against their peers from Burgundy and Bordeaux.  Along with special guest Winemaker Nils Venge recreate – to a degree – this tasting by holding a blind tasting at Cork & Bottle with four Chardonnays (two Napa, two Burgundy) and four Cabernets (two Bordeaux, two Napa) and let you be the judge:  Which side of the pond do you prefer? The tasting begin at 6:30 and will last about an hour (Limit 24 seats)

November 18: May All of Your Pains be Grower Champagnes, $40

Its that time of year, time to start poppint the cork on celebrating a year gone by and the promise of a new one.  In the Champagne Region of France wines are either made from Grapes bought on the open market or they are made by people who grow their own grapes and make their own wine…and the difference is amazing.  Grower Champagnes tend to be small production and distinctive and really give you the insight of the palate of the grower.   They are wines of character and style and because they often fly “under the radar” many people overlook them, that is until tonight.  Give yourself a holiday treat early this season and learn about some amazing wine in the process!  Cheers! The tasting begin at 6:30 and will last about an hour (Limit 24 seats)

November 25: Thanksgiving Eve, No Tasting.
